The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has relayed the government’s plans to upgrade the Greater Accra Regional Hospital into a Teaching Hospital.

The initiative, the Minister has communicated, forms part of the government’s strategy to enhance healthcare delivery and create expansion for medical training opportunities in the country.

He says the initiative also forms part of the government’s fidelity to establishing at least, a regional hospital in all 16 regions.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of refurbishing existing healthcare facilities to ensure their continued efficiency and effectiveness in delivering quality medical services.

“We are also looking at upgrading some of the already existing health facilities,” he stated. “You don’t build new ones and leave already existing ones to deteriorate. So we are looking at improving Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and upgrading Korle Bu Teaching Hospital,” he said on Accra-based JoyNews.

“We are considering upgrading the Greater Accra Regional Hospital into a Teaching Hospital. We are also exploring ways to increase the number of CHPS compounds in the country and integrate healthcare facilities to enhance efficiency,” he added.
