Dr. Maxwell Adom Coffie Divine, a researcher, herbalist, and CEO of Active Life Dietary, has urged the Minister of Health to collaborate with herbal medicine practitioners to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.
He has emphasised the need for the Ministry to provide more support for herbal practitioners to carry out research, as they possess valuable knowledge that could lead to the development of medicines to cure various diseases.
At a free health screening organized by his outfit for residents of Sefwi Asawinso in the Western North region, Dr. Divine noted that herbal remedies are among the best approaches to improving the country’s healthcare system.
However, he pointed out that it is often difficult for herbal practitioners to acquire licenses, making it challenging for them to operate legally.
He used the opportunity to call on the Minister of Health and the Ministry to provide more assistance to herbal practitioners in their research efforts.
He further urged the Minister to establish systems to support these practitioners, ensuring that they can contribute more effectively to healthcare delivery in the country.
While acknowledging that modern medicines like Oxitodo have their benefits, Dr. Divine believes herbal medicine could significantly enhance the healthcare sector if given proper support.
He also called on the Minister to prioritise addressing the issue of illegal herbal practitioners by urging them to go through the proper processes to acquire legal licenses, ensuring that their work is safe and regulated.
