The Tamale Technical University Hospital has been shut down by the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority (HeFRA).

The closure took effect on November 7, 2025.

According to HeFRA, intelligence and reports available to the facility which was confirmed upon a visit to the place indicates that health care provision at the hospital occurs under highly compromised safety and infection prevention standards.

HeFRA said the facility will remain closed until all safety gaps are addressed.

“An administrative fine of GHC35,000 to be paid by the facility for regulatory violation. The Facility must also take expeditious steps to regularize its licensing status with the agency and must uphold high standards of safety in the provision of health services to the clients,” a public notice sighted by 3news indicates.

In the notice signed by the Ag. Registrar, Dr Winfred Korletey Baah, HeFRA noted that the closure is in accordance with its mandate as stipulated by the health institutions and facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829) to license and monitor facilities intended for the provision of public and private healthcare services.
