The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has cautioned the media against what it describes as the “many speculative and unsubstantiated commentaries” surrounding the Z-9 Air Force helicopter that crashed on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a statement signed by Captain V. A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, and issued on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the military admonished media practitioners, commentators, bloggers, and content creators to exercise caution and avoid speculative or unverified reports about the incident.
The statement explained that the restraint was necessary to accord the bereaved families the respect they deserve while mourning their deceased relatives.
“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, the Armed Forces urges media practitioners, panellists, social commentators, bloggers and content creators to be circumspect in their reportage as a way of according respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and to mitigate the sorrows of the bereaved families,” it said.
In collaboration with international agencies, the GAF assured the public that the matter, which is of keen interest to them, will be probed to ascertain the cause of the incident, warning against any misleading or premature reportage.
“At this point in time, any purported conclusions based on opinions, perceptions and conjectures will be premature and misleading. The public is therefore advised to be wary of such reportage,” the statement warned.
The Armed Forces expressed appreciation to the government, institutions, and individuals for their support during this period of national mourning and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
“May the souls of our patriots continue to rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
