The Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has inaugurated Council Members of the Medical and Dental Council, the National Health Insurance Authority, the Pharmacy Council, and Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.
The swearing-in ceremony on May 27, officially entrusts the stewardship of these four most essential agencies responsible for two key functions- regulation and financing in the health sector, into the hands of the councils.
Mr Akandoh entreated members of each council of the various agencies to work collaboratively and always put the Ghanaian patient first.
He assured them that the Ministry remains committed to providing the policy frameworks to enable their institutions to thrive. He cautioned them against the business-as-usual attitude.
The council members were also charged to build a health sector that is equitable, resilient, and prepared for the future.
‘‘Your appointments are not only a recognition of your expertise and leadership but a call to national service at a time when Ghana’s health sector must rise to meet both urgent national needs and emerging global health dynamics. Today, we are faced with a complex array of health challenges—rising rates of non-communicable diseases such as cancers and kidney failure, an ageing population, attrition in the health workforce, and increasing patient expectations for quality care. At the same time, our vision is ambitious: to achieve universal health coverage, restore public confidence in our health system, and operationalize flagship initiatives such as the Ghana Medical Trust Fund—MahamaCares,’’ he said.
On behalf of the council members, each Council Chairperson expressed gratitude to the Minister for the confidence reposed in them to perform their tasks.
They assured government of nothing but the best outcome in their respective areas.
