The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has disclosed that the High Court has officially withdrawn an arrest warrant issued against the Director of Passports in relation to alleged involvement in the issuance of multiple Ghanaian passports to one Mr Dominic Williams.

In a press release issued on Thursday, May 22, the Ministry noted that the court has cleared the Director of Passport of any wrong doing and ruled that the Director had no connection to the incident, which has been established occurred before he assumed office on August 19, 2024.

“The Ministry wishes to confirm that the matter has been fully resolved, and the Director of Passports has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

“It is important to emphasise that the incident in question predates the Director’s assumption of office,” the statement said.

According to the Ministry, records indicate that Mr Dominic Williams acquired his first Ghanaian passport over twelve years ago, with the most recent one issued on January 16, 2024—a full eight months before the current Director assumed leadership at the Passport Office.

“The Ministry takes this opportunity to thank the Judiciary for its swift and impartial handling of the matter,” the statement added.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to uphold transparency, accountability and the integrity of passport administration in Ghana.

“We continue to strengthen internal systems and processes to safeguard the integrity of the passport issuance regime,” it said.

“The Ministry remains committed to serving the people of Ghana with professionalism and dedication.”

The initial arrest warrant sparked public concern after it was linked to a broader investigation into passport fraud.
