Severe flooding in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region has displaced more than 3,000 residents and affected over 400 homes following the overflow of the River Dayi.
The Hohoe Zongo is the worst affected, with floodwaters submerging more than half of the community and forcing families out of their homes into neighbouring areas.
Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, made this known when he spoke on Channel One TV on Monday, September 29, 2026.
He said the victims have been relocated to temporary shelters, including classroom blocks, as authorities work to secure more suitable accommodation.
He noted that the extent of the disaster has overstretched the Municipal Assembly and other local agencies, hence the appeal for support from individuals, organisations and other stakeholders.
“It’s overwhelming. The MP and the MCE alone cannot, in fact, we are not able to. We are calling for support,” he said.
Mr Tsekpo lauded NADMO and the security services for their swift evacuation efforts which helped prevent loss of lives.
He said the situation is still fluid, with water levels continuing to rise after the rains, requiring sustained emergency intervention to protect affected communities.
