The Apostolic Fathers of Ghana have called on the nation to renew its commitment to the fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey, describing it as a sacred duty owed to those who have lost their lives defending the land.

The call was made by Apostle General Sam Korankye Ankrah, who spoke on behalf of the group during a solemn flower-laying ceremony held in honour of eight fallen heroes who died in the line of duty on August 11.

The ceremony, organized by the Apostolic Fathers, aimed to commemorate the sacrifices made by those who stood against environmental degradation and illegal mining.

The 8 fallen heroes

“For their memory, let us continue the fight against galamsey in honour of these fallen heroes,” Apostle General Korankye Ankrah said. “If we don’t do that, then we have done a disservice to their memory.”

The Apostolic Fathers, made up of pioneering leaders of Ghana’s Charismatic movement, emphasized that the galamsey crisis is not just an environmental or political issue, but a moral and spiritual one that demands a united national front.

The ceremony served as a moment of reflection on the heavy cost of illegal mining — not just in terms of environmental destruction, but also the human lives lost in the battle to protect Ghana’s natural resources.

The Church leaders used the occasion to challenge both government and citizens to act with integrity, justice, and courage in preserving the nation’s future for generations to come.
