Defence Minister nominee, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, has allayed the fears of Ghanaians on his impartiality indicating his readiness to serve the interest of the nation.
According to him, he can even be the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) and still be impartial, reemphasising his commitment to serve the needs of Ghanaians without any biases.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, asked if he would resign from his position as Director of Elections and IT for the NDC to concentrate on his role as Defence Minister.
In his response, he said “no Ghanaian should have any fear about my impartiality. In fact, I can be the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and I’ll be impartial, that’s my nature.”
He explained that he took the said role in the NDC just for the 2024 elections and has declared his intentions of relieving himself of the position once the poll was over.
The former Minister of Communications also disclosed that he has already had discussions with his team on whom to present to the leadership of the party to take over from him.
“Trust me, and my deputies are here with me. Whether I was going to be appointed or not, I took up the job of the Director of Elections of the NDC purposely for the 2024 elections.
“Immediately after the elections, I told them my job was done. Amongst us, we’ve discussed that we know who we’ll be proposing to the Functional Executive Committee to take over from me,” he remarked.
