The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on the National Peace Council to call the Electoral Commission to order.

He says it was time the Council made the EC aware of the need to come out and declare the outcome of the just ended polls.

Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters Sunday, December 08, 2024, ‘General Mosquito’, as he is known in the political space, indicated that the National Peace Council had called on him to speak to his supporters to remain calm.

According to him, the Council wanted him to speak to the youth of the party to cool their temper to allow the EC come out with the results as some ongoing agitations are raising tension. This comes on the back of some few constituencies where the results have not been declared due to some challenges.

The EC has asked Ghanaians to grant it the benefit of the doubt to execute its mandate once all the results with the signed documents come to its fore.

But Mr. Asiedu Nketia, in his address noted that he wasn’t going to ask his party members to calm down since he did same in the last elections, leading to the massive rigging that took place against his party.

“…but in this situation where everybody is a suspect, if I, as the National Chairman of NDC, call on my party people to remain calm and allow themselves to be cheated, I’ll not survive it,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, earlier today, made a concession statement and congratulated the former president for decisively winning the presidential poll and the NDC as a whole for winning majority of the parliamentary seats.
