Hearts of Oak and Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has confirmed Asante Kotoko approached to sign him from Great Olympics at the end of the 2023/24 season.

However, Asare continues, he does not know what happened for the talks to break down.

“I was ready to move to any team that was willing to offer me a deal,” he opened up on Agoro Fie on Onua TV on Friday, May 9.

“Honestly, I don’t know what made that deal [to join Kotoko] fall through but what was available was Hearts of Oak.”

Asare, who gained a national team call-up after joining the Phobians, expressed gratitude to coach Aboubakar Ouattara for making the bold decision to come for him.

The goalkeeper said he would not know which club he would have landed at next if not for Ouattara’s strong conviction to sign him.

He said the reason for the breakdown in talks to join Kotoko is within the two managements – his and Asante Kotoko’s.

“They needed to speak to Asante Kotoko’s management before coming back to me but I don’t know what happened.”

Asare has kept clean sheets multiple times in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, his last coming in the game against Asante Kotoko.

He also achieved this feat in his debut for the Black Stars.
