The recently elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary representative for the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has denied doing anything untoward during the interparty elections held last Saturday.
He says he won the primary genuinely.
Baba Jamal said he would avail himself to the investigative process triggered by the NDC into the alleged vote buying.
The NDC earlier constituted a three-member committee to investigate allegations of widespread inducement and vote-buying during the primary held last Saturday in the Ayawaso East constituency.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, on Saturday, February 7, the party said the committee had until Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to submit its findings.
“In line with the Party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency and ethical political conduct, the Committee will investigate the allegations and make appropriate recommendations, including sanctions where necessary,” the statement said.
Addressing his supporters on Monday, February 9, Baba Jamal said, ” I’ve been invited to meet the committee later today, and as I said, I will make myself available for any investigation to go on so that our names will be cleared so that everybody will have confidence in the system. We don’t have anything to hide, and so we will make ourselves available to go and respond to whatever investigation they want to conduct. I will ask my supporters to stay calm.
” I am grateful to them, but everybody should stay calm because let’s allow the processes to go on and let the party do what it’s supposed to do.
” As I have said, I have not done anything wrong, and for that matter, I am sure I have earned a genuine victory; I will be allowed to go on. ”
Asked whether he shared items to delegates, he said ” I also heard it after the election that I shared these things. I also heard it later that some TVs were shared, and now do you know the problem I have? Now, a lot of people, because I think they didn’t share for everybody, now everybody is coming to my office here asking for TV, and I don’t have TV. Those who dealt with it, I don’t know. Actually, do you know that the people you are talking about, I don’t even know, I have not seen them. I have heard the names, I know the names, but I have not even seen them as I talk to you now.”
