Renowned legal practitioner, Ace Kojo Anan Ankomah, has urged law firms in the country to see themselves as partners who complement each other, rather than competing with themselves.

He believes no one law firm can stand tall in every aspect of the legal sphere, which is why they need to see themselves as parties that complement each other where they fall short.

On Africa Legal Associates’ 10th anniversary, the ace lawyer recalled the firm’s journey and said, “I never consider another law firm a competition because I think the market in Ghana is still growing.”

He believes encouraging more law firms in the country would actually put Ghana in a position where foreign firms won’t take over businesses meant for local firms.

Below is his full congratulatory message to Africa Legal Associates:

“Over a decade ago, Gabby and Nana Adjoa informed me that they intended to set up a law firm. Nana Adjoa was going to leave her plush in-house work to set up their own law firm.

“I was happy to tag along. We had breakfast, and they basically asked how we set up a law firm. I happily and gleefully gave them the whole 9 yards, everything I knew, from setting up structuring, compensation, hiring, and everything that came to mind.

“They went away and set up the law firm, and 10 years down the line, we are celebrating 10 years of success. I wish you well. I never consider another law firm a competition because I think the market in Ghana is still growing.

“I consider each of us to be completing each other instead of competing with each other, your firm completes mine, the areas we fall short you will be strong and the areas you fall short we will be strong and together we present a strong Ghanaian law firm background, which is something we seriously need as a country so we don’t keep losing Ghana work to English and South African firms, and so I wish you well on your 10th anniversary.

“I will tell you what, the day you think you have arrived is the day you begin to die so so always consider there is still a clear blue sea ahead of you to conquer and be like the Emperor Alexander, who worked because there were no more new lands to conquer. Conquer, move forward and let us build the Magic Circle and Chasing Pack of law firms even in Ghana.”
