Francis Addai-Nimoh, a 2024 flag bearer aspirant of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed hurt over the Akufo-Addo administration’s failure to recognise him.
He believes he had the credentials to take on a key role in the administration but was sidelined, which he finds hurtful.
According to him, he was always ready to contribute his quota towards the administration’s success but wasn’t given the opportunity.
He explains that he contributed to the party’s efforts during its days in opposition before it regained power in 2016, where he expected to be recognised.
Speaking on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, with JB, the former Member of Parliament for Mampong in the Ashanti Region expressed his disappointment over Akufo-Addo’s failure to broaden his administration beyond certain quarters of the party to give Ghanaians the kind of administration that would warrant another mandate for the New Patriotic Party.
Aside from other reasons, the Engineer attributed the party’s humiliating defeat in the December 2024 elections to the government’s poor performance, which he believes reflected the verdict rendered by Ghanaians at the polls.
“I was hurt that I wasn’t recognised to serve in the government,” Addai-Nimoh stated.
“In terms of my professional abilities, I should have been recognised. Looking at my contribution to the party during our time in opposition, I was expecting to be given the opportunity to serve, so, I was hurt,” he explained.
Addai-Nimoh further revealed that he wasn’t involved in the Bawumia campaign because the team didn’t recognize him. He believes all flag bearer aspirants should have been officially invited and assigned specific roles in the campaign.
However, they weren’t given the opportunity, and he didn’t want to join a campaign where he might not be welcomed.
“I wasn’t seen in Bawumia’s campaign because I was not part. I wasn’t recognised. Roles could have been assigned to us (flag bearer aspirants) officially because I could have chosen to go willingly and wouldn’t even be welcomed,” he stated.
Meanwhile, he believes the party leadership’s failure to heed the clear warning given by Ghanaians through the party’s performance in the 2020 elections contributed to the humiliating outcome in the 2024 polls.
He noted that the results showed Ghanaians weren’t satisfied with the administration, and the party should have taken this as a cue to reflect on its actions but failed to do so, leading to the poor outcome in the last elections.
