Veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of fellow screen legend Grace Nortey.

Maame Dokono, who shared a close relationship with Grace Nortey for many years, said she wept when she heard the news of her death. “I wept when I heard the news of her passing,” she said.

Recalling their years together in the film industry, Maame Dok ono said the two actresses travelled together for film productions, including trips to Takoradi. She also remembered the playful moments they shared on set. “When I started with her, we were going to Takoradi together,” she recalled.

She said their friendship was filled with fun moments, especially during film productions. “Sometimes I play the Patience Ozokwor and sometimes too she will play,” Maame Dokono said. She added that they would sometimes pretend to quarrel on set.

Maame Dokono also recalled celebrating Grace Nortey’s birthday at her home in Atomic about a year or two ago. “I was so close to her, I was so close. I remember last year or two she said she wanted to celebrate her birthday, so we all went to her house at Atomic and celebrated her,” she said.

Describing Grace Nortey as a kind person, Maame Dokono said the late actress often took time to advise and encourage her. “She was so nice a person. She will always sit me down and advise me. She will advise me,” she recalled, adding that she never imagined her colleague would leave so soon.

Maame Dokono has prayed for strength for Grace Nortey’s family, colleagues and everyone mourning her passing. She said the late actress will be remembered for her kindness, friendship, guidance and immense contribution to Ghana’s film industry.
