The Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has issued a stern warning to his staff not to join a planned strike action by organised labour.

Kofi Jumah in an interview on Oyerepa FM on Tuesday, October 8 blatantly declared that he will sack any worker of his company who joins the strike action by Organised labour.

According to him, the reasons for Organised labour’s strike action has nothing to do with GIHOC and he does not encourage his workers to join the industrial action.

He said workers should abstain from the strike as the reason outlined for the industrial action is a national concern and not concerns of GIHOC.

“I hope GIHOC workers are listening, if you like don’t come to work. If you join the strike, I will sack you. If you join the strike, take your salary from organised labour. Don’t we have labour laws in this country?”

“Let it be a national concern not GIHOC concern…there are rules. If someone does not sleep well and comes to say things, then you follow. So, if you like, follow them and see. They should not even waste our time because we are wise people at GIHOC,” he emphasized.

Members of Organised Labour have resolved to proceed with the nationwide strike on October 10 despite being urged by President Akufo-Addo to give him more time to address their concerns during a meeting on October 4.

Spokesperson of Organised Labour Joshua Ansah said in Accra on October 7 that they will not back down on their plan.
The Organised Labour meeting was held behind closed doors. However, the leadership insisted that it would proceed with the strike on October 10 as stated.

According to Joshua Ansah the strike will happen if government does not ban illegal mining.

“We had a discussion, we said by the tenth of October if nothing has been done there will be a nationwide strike. Our strike remains unchanged; we are of the view that what the government has proposed to do does not adequately address our demands and therefore our notice of strike remains unchanged. The president discussed the issues with us and our demand is that and what he is able to do is what he has told us, if nothing happens, we will proceed with our strike,” he said.
