Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Andrews Augustus Nana Akwasi, has vowed to turn the opposition NPP’s stronghold into an NDC zone.

The two-time regional chairman said he will not rest until the ruling party is dominant in the region.

“When I won the regional election in 2018, the NDC had only three seats in the region after that heavy defeat in 2016.

“I vowed to increase the seats no matter what, and I promised myself I wouldn’t rest until that was achieved. In 2020, the New Edubiase seat returned to the NDC under my leadership. I felt I could do more, so in 2024 the NDC won three more seats, making it seven in all,” he told TV3’s William Evans-Nkum.

Nana Akwasi hopes to add more seats if delegates retain him as regional chairman.

“My party rewards loyalty. In fact, some people are even surprised that I have a contest, but I tell them it is democracy and I welcome it.

“I have worked, my footprints are everywhere, and the delegates will look at that and vote massively for me to continue making the NDC a powerhouse in the opposition’s stronghold,” he added.
