Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flag bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to the Wa Naa and his people to vote for him as president in the upcoming elections ahead of his main competitor, John Dramani Mahama.
As candidates from the north and both being the Wa Naa’s children, the Vice President says he has asked his “senior brother” John Mahama to allow him to be President since he (Mahama) has served in that capacity before.
Speaking at a meeting with Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV at his palace in Wa Sunday, May 19, 2024, as part of his nationwide campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia stated that he has asked Mahama to let them have the presidency for 8 years instead of 4 years since they are both bringing it home as brothers.
“Myself and my main opponent [John Dramani Mahama] are all your children. We are both from the North and he has been president before but I haven’t been president before, so I have told him [John Dramani Mahama] that he is my senior brother, and he should have patience for me so I can also become president of this country.
“I will be able to be president for eight years, and he can only be president for four years, so if the presidency is coming home, then we should have it for eight years rather than four years,” he noted.
Dr. Bawumia also promised to run a campaign devoid of insults and personal attacks.
He says his focus would be to sell his message to Ghanaians regarding what he has done as Vice President and what he will be able to do if given the mandate.
What bothers Ghanaians most is the economic and social challenges which Dr. Bawumia says he will be addressing in his campaign rather than be resulting to insults.
He made the remarks after the Wa Naa had admonished him to stick to a decent and proper campaign without insults.
“I am very much guided by your advice and that advice is one that I have been implementing and sharing my ideas with the people of Ghana with no insult to anybody. Just my ideas and this is how I have been campaigning throughout. So that is the message we will be going around with. To tell Ghanaians what I am going to do as president and what we have done as a government to ask for the people’s support to go to the next level,” he noted.
