Nana Agradaa, the fetish priestess-turned-evangelist who was gifted cash by Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Managing Director of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has said she will return the money for peace to prevail.
She says she cannot be the reason for Mr. Gyamfi’s dismissal as Acting MD of the Ghana Gold Board. Her comments follow widespread demands for the removal of the GoldBod Acting MD over his gift to the controversial religious figure.
Agradaa had earlier questioned why some people were upset over the gift’s value, asking why members of the NDC should worry about it.
“[If Sammy Gyamfi] gifts me US$800.00, you’re saying it belongs to Ghana. How much is 800 dollars? Don’t be doing this. If you’re an NDC, don’t be worried over this. The Bible says you should always be happy for one another’s gains. Always tap into somebody’s blessings,” Agradaa stated in a video she posted on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
Following the intensity of the calls for Mr. Gyamfi’s sanction, Agradaa has said she will return the gift Sammy Gyamfi gave her, to settle the matter. She says she cannot be the reason why the young man who extended kindness to her should be sacked.
“If my name will be on the chopping block for the dismissal of Sammy Gyamfi, then I’ll go and change some cedis to dollars and multiply it and return it. I don’t need your money. That’s what you want. I’ll return it, and when I’m coming, I’ll come with my own phone, record it, and post it. That way, those of you who are upset over the $800 Sammy Gyamfi gave me will be okay,” she said in a latest video posted on social media.
Sammy Gyamfi’s gift to Agradaa has sparked public outrage, especially after President Mahama launched a Code of Conduct for Public Officials a few days earlier, detailing how public officials should conduct themselves to avoid creating public disaffection.
Critics have pointed to the video as potentially undermining the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which emphasizes integrity, accountability, and transparency in public service.
Many party faithful have been outraged after the incident, not over the gesture per se, but the person involved, who is a controversial religious figure claiming to be an evangelist after being previously arrested for defrauding many as a fetish priestess.
Meanwhile, Mr. Gyamfi was summoned to the Jubilee House by the Chief of Staff on Monday, May 12, 2025, following the incident, to explain the circumstances surrounding the controversial gift that has sparked criticism and raised concerns over the conduct of public officials.
