I’m above board. No dirt can stick on me; it’s not about releasing untested evidence to the media. Come to court and prove your allegations.

Those are the words of Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah as he departs from the High Court after meeting his bail conditions on October 3.

Earlier, the Court granted Baffour Awuah a bail of GHC10 million with two sureties without justification after the Deputy Attorney-General declined to oppose the bail application filed by lawyers of the legislator.

The Manhyia South MP has pleaded not guilty to charges including intentionally dissipating public funds, causing financial loss to the state and money laundering totaling GHC9.85million in connection with the SIC Savings and Loans company Ltd.

“I have through it all been in very good spirit. I’m extremely grateful to the people of Ghana who have seen through the propaganda of the NDC. The support they’ve given me is massive and I will assure them that I am indeed innocent, no dirt can stick on me.

It’s not about releasing untested evidence to the media. Come to court and come and prove that whatever you are alleging amounts to guilt on my part for which reason you think the court should convict me.

Again, I thank the people of Ghana and I assure them that I am indeed innocent and this is a clear case of witch-hunting.

I want to thank Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of our party. He’s done so well, going to the extent of going to see my old lady to support her emotionally, is something that I really appreciate and will not take it for granted. The entirety of the party, the support has been very massive.

I thank my leadership in parliament. They have been so great. My colleagues from parliament who have stood by me through it all – I can’t mention names – but the support has been very strong. My constituency has been amazing, I really love all of them and I want you to be rest assured that my commitment to you remains resolute.

This is not going to deter me in advocating strongly for the principles and the positions that I believe in. I will continue to advocate. I will advocate for Salomey, the innocent mother of three who was snatched at the blind side of her adult family members, brought to Accra and at all material times, just like many other cases involving some other women who have been exercising their right to free speech, consciously denied the right to representation in court, a right which is crucial to fair trial and so I’m going to be very resolute. I’ll continue with what I’ve been doing and this is not going to deter me. Thank you very much. God bless you all,” he said..

His lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea expressed satisfaction at the grant of bail by the High Court.
