President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, particularly President John Dramani Mahama and Sports Minister Kofi Adams, for their support in his appointment as the Second Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Kurt Okraku was named the Second Vice President of the continent’s football-governing body on Saturday, April 26 by the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe.

He assumed the role a few weeks after his election onto the Executive Committee of CAF.

In a message of gratitude issued on Sunday, April 27, Kurt Okraku said the day marked a “wonderful day” in Ghana football as it comes a few years after the country’s sport went through its most difficult period.

“I thank the Almighty God for how far he has brought us!” he indicated, extending that gratitude to President Mahama for “your love and invaluable support throughout this journey”.

He also expressed humility and gratitude to Dr Motsepe for the honour.

“This recognition is a testament to the trust and confidence you have in me, and I pledge to apply myself to diligently support the President and Executive Committee in promoting African football.”

He also thanked his family and colleagues on the Executive Council of the GFA as well as all Ghanaians for their goodwill messages.

“Your encouragement and prayers have reinforced my resolve to work tirelessly for the advancement of our beloved sport.

“As I embark on this role, I am committed to flying Ghana’s flag high and contributing to the growth and development of African football.

“With humility and continued support of all stakeholders, I am confident that together, we can achieve greatness and take Ghana and African football to new heights.”
