President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is advocating for the introduction of electronic systems in court proceedings to speed up justice delivery in the country.

Yaw Acheampong Boafo says Ghana needs to amend its laws to inculcate the technology into its judicial processes and invest in resources to foster implementation in that regard.

Speaking at the 2022 Annual Chief Justice’s Forum in Kumasi, the GBA president opined also that, social media influence should not be underestimated in keeping the public abreast on judicial processes and other rulings that would guide the daily activities of citizens.

He therefore proposed the publication of key court judgements of the Superior Court on social media handles to inform the public of its decisions.

“The Supreme Court should adopt posting some public interest decision by the court on their social media page for the citizens to know and understand the decision of the court to know how it can affect their businesses, security, etc,“ he advised.

The Judicial Service of Ghana inaugurated the Annual Chief Justice’s Forum as part of measures to enhance its public image, trust and buoyancy through engagement with stakeholders on issues of access to justice, transparency and accountability.

The annual event also brings together key stakeholders to deliberate on relevant issues that affect the administration of justice.

It also serves as a platform to receive feedback on justice delivery.

The GBA president pointed out how the covid-19 pandemic brought the significance of technology to bare, with the judiciary adopting many digital tools to serve the public.

He emphasised how such technologyical system will highlight judicial transparency and boost the public’s trust in the Judiciary arm of government.
