Founder and leader of The New Force, Nana Kwame Asare Bediako, has taken a swipe over John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy.
Despite admitting that the policy is a good thing which can be implemented in Ghana, Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, has said that the policy cannot run in Ghana’s current state.
He says until such a policy will be fully manifested, Ghana’s economy needs to be industrialised. With the current situation, Cheddar says a 24-hour-economy is not possible.
During a presentation of his 2024 Manifesto, dubbed; ’12 Pillars for Economic Freedom’ Sunday, September 01, 2024, he said “no industrialisation, no 24-hour economy.”
“Our market women cannot sell gari at Makola for 24 hours. Unlesss we create industries where a three-hour shift system will be run. So we can’t run a 24-hour-economy that way. It is not possible,” he stated.
Flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has proposed the implementation of a 24-hour-economy should he win the December 07 election.
John Mahama has said that the policy which will not be mandatory seeks to create more employment to cater for the teeming unemployment in the country.
He says his government will provide subsidies in terms of power tariffs and tax reliefs for industries who will apply to run the 24-hour-economy, whilst security will also be provided for them.
Many have lauded the policy with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) calling it the game-changer.
