President John Dramani Mahama has called on residents of Bawku and its environs to end the long-standing conflict that has ensued amongst them for ages.

The President says the conflict has bequeathed unprintable memories on the minds of the younger generation who deserve better than the conflict nightmares and waste of lives and properties that have come with the milieu.

Speaking at the 68th Independence Day parade at the Jubilee House in Accra Thursday, March 06, 2025, the President indicated that the time for peace to reign in Bawku and its environs was now.

He underscored the need to leave the classrooms, market places and the entire environment with peaceful memories that offer a conducive atmosphere for the young ones to thrive in their respective fields of endeavour, rather than leaving them conflicts and a state of melancholy.

“The people of Bawku and other areas, it is time for lasting peace to prevail. Our children deserve to inherit a peaceful land where their brains are nurtured, not where their nightmares are relieved.

“They deserve to inherit a land where our markets are ushering with trade, not tension and conflicts. They deserve to inherit schools that echo with learning and not melancholy,” he prayed.

According to the President, the call was not for the past to be forgotten, but rather to live above it. He reemphasised that it was time to give peace a chance.

“Let us not be swayed by division, distrust and the weight of past hindrance. Let us give renewal of friendship a chance, let us give peace a chance. This is not an invitation to simply forget the past. Far from it. It is an invitation to live above it,” he stated.
