Nii Aryee Opare has condemned in no uncertain terms the ‘rambo-styled’ means with which brodcaster Blessed Godsbrain Smart was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

He says the Bureau instead of chasing him around and crossing him on the street could have had a dialogue with him to schedule a time for the journalist to appear before them.

On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, whilst Mr. Smart was on set, two persons from the NIB came to Media General and entered into the studio where he was hosting a panel.

Their presence according to Captain Smart as indicated on his show Thursday was in relation to the arrest that was effected Wednesday.

Ivan Innocent Kyei, a youth activist and social commentator was on the panel with Nii Aryee Opare, Spokesperson for the Economic Fighters League.

During the discussion on Maakye Thursday, October 20, 2022, Nii Aryee who was on the set the day the operatives came to the studio said he would have created a scene on the set if the NIB had tried anything funny on the day.

He held an invitation would have been ideal.

“…But you don’t just march into the person’s workplace whilst live production is ongoing that you’re coming inside the studio to arrest him.

“Captain you should have allowed them. It would have been very beautiful here for the cameras to capture it. Captain for a long time these things have been happening. The media have been abused for so many times.

“I can’t even say I’m a journalist but since I’m on a platform like this with you, I can say I have a vested interest in it. For a long time the state has used its security apparatus to abuse and even kill journalists and we only talk about it a few times and leave it,” he fumed.
