Former President John Mahama has expressed disappointment in the Akufo-Addo administration for failing to implement the recommendations by the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election Commission of Inquiry.

Mr Mahama, who is also the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated his commitment to delivering justice for the victims of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence if elected on December 7, 2024.

As part of the Eid celebrations, Mahama visited the National Chief Imam on Friday, June 28 where he donated GHC50,000 and other items. During this visit, he called for a peaceful election in the upcoming December polls.

Mr Mahama also visited Ishao Yaro, one of the victims of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election shooting incident, in Fadama.

During his visit, the NDC flagbearer expressed his dissatisfaction with the government’s inaction following the submission of the committee’s report.

“After the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, a commission of inquiry was set up and the commission made some investigations and recommendations. It identified those who were responsible for what happened at Ayawaso West Wuogon and asked that they be sanctioned. Unfortunately, this government has refused to take any action against those who were responsible for the harm that has been caused to our brother,” Mahama stated.

He assured the victims that the next NDC administration would take steps to alleviate their plight and deliver justice.

“I have assured him that when we come to power, justice will be done, and whoever was involved in that unfortunate incident will be brought to book and made to face justice for what they have done to him,” Mahama said.

The former president encouraged NDC supporters to stay hopeful and committed as the December 7 election approaches. He also called on the general public to ensure peace during and after the elections, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a peaceful democratic process.

Mahama’s remarks underscore his ongoing commitment to addressing political violence and ensuring accountability, as he continues his campaign for the upcoming elections.
