Residents at Metika in the Half-Assini area of the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region have seen a sigh of relief after the Member of Parliament (MP), Dorcas Affo-Toffey, constructed their only bridge, which has been there for over 100 years.

Vehicles can now move freely while business activities are ongoing in and around Metika, a fishing community.

For the first time in the history of the town, vehicles have been able to enter through the bridge, and residents are elated about the development.

This came to light during the commissioning of the bridge by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama.

The bridge serves as a link to residents in Jawu, Anume, Tuope, Half-Assini, and Tikobo, among others.

The residents say that before the construction of the bridge, fishermen that trade in between these towns and Metika had to park their vehicles at a distance and walk to and from to carry their fish.

They explained that while Madam Affo-Toffey was going to court, they thought she would not be able to construct the bridge, but she has been able to do the construction.

The MP, Madam Affo-Toffey, said the construction of the bridge was a promise made to them during the campaigns to become the MP.

She said that even though she is an orphan since her government is not in power, she thought it wise to begin little by little.

Madam Affo-Toffey explained that schoolchildren and market men and women who use the old bridge were suffering, so she thought it wise to alleviate the suffering by constructing the bride.

She called on the residents to ensure proper maintenance by notifying her in case of any defect on the bridge to expand its life span.

The NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, praised the MP for such a project.

He said such projects are to be done by the central government, so if an MP has been able to do such a project, she deserves another chance to represent the people of Jomoro in Parliament.

Mr. Mahama said even though her government is not in power but she has been able to construct such a bridge, if the NDC comes to power in 2024 and she is the MP, she would do more for the people of Jomoro.
