The Juaboso District Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber during a swift operation at a mining site near Sefwi Kofikrom, close to Sefwi Proso in the Juaboso District of the Western North region.
The arrest was made by the Formed Police Unit (FPU) led by Inspector Ernest Adjetey, while on patrol. The team responded promptly to a distress call reporting an ongoing robbery at the mining site.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers spotted five young men hiding in a nearby plantain plantation. The suspects attempted to flee, but the police—with assistance from the complainant—pursued them. One suspect, identified as Maxwell Awuni, 19, Maxwell Awuni, was apprehended, while the others managed to escape and remain at large.
Following his arrest, Awuni led the police to his residence at Sefwi Proso. A search of the premises uncovered a cache of weapons and other items concealed in a sack.
The recovered items included: One Adler/Alpha pump action gun; three single-barrel guns; one locally manufactured pistol; twenty-two (22) live BB cartridges; two live 9mm cartridges (contained in a black mini hand pouch); two face masks; one cutlass and one hand glove.

During interrogation, Awuni confessed that at around 8:00am on the day of his arrest, he and his accomplices attacked the mining site and robbed the victim of gold concentrate, commonly referred to as “black.”
He also admitted that they had planned a second robbery at an adjoining site.
Maxwell Awuni is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects to face justice.

The Juaboso Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents and businesses in the district.
