Five persons have been injured in a confrontation between traders and members of the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly’s task force during a decongestion exercise in the Kasoa Central Business District (CBD).
The confusion occurred on the third day of the exercise, aimed at taking pedestrians off unauthorised places to make the city clean and to allow free flow of traffic.
Although the first two days of the exercise did not cause any commotion, the Kasoa Phone Dealers Association resisted the removal of tents they had erected on walkways when the task force visited the Central Business District on the third day today, Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
The traders hurled stones at the task force when they attempted pulling down the tents, turning the situation chaotic.
Five persons got injured in the process, including three of the task force members.
The Kasoa – Bawjiase junction road was blocked in the course of the process, disrupting vehicular traffic, drawing public concern.
Calm was eventually restored after the Kasoa Divisional Police Command intervened for the exercise to continue.
Although there was a meeting between the traders and municipal assembly ahead of the exercise, members of the phone dealers association claim they were not given adequate time to remove their structures voluntarily, a situation that contributed to the confrontation.
