A young man believed to be in his 30s has allegedly committed suicide by hanging after his girlfriend jilted him at Shalom City, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

The man whose name was given as Shadrack Fosu popularly known as Nana Yaw, according to a suicide note he left behind, took care of his girlfriend, Gifty, but later abandoned him because he later mishandled her.

Residents have disclosed that the duo had been staying together for some time now until economic realities hit hard at them, prompting the lady to relocate to Kumasi for greener pastures.

However, Mr. Fosu’s suicide note says otherwise, indicating that he did not treat her well, the reason the lady abandoned him. According to the deceased, he cannot stand the sight of a good woman like Gifty being married to another man, the reason he had to end his life.

The deceased, per residents account was in normal state as at 4pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, but was discovered dead hanging on a rope around 5pm.

“Life is a journey, I started mine at a tender age. I have done a lot and I met a lady which I love very much. She takes care of me, guide me, protect me but I took her for granted. I did a lot to her but now she has broken up with me. She has done a lot but I can’t stay and hear say she is getting marry to another man. LIFE IS A JOURNEY AND I HAVE ENDED MINE. GIFTY THANK YOU,” a suicide note left by the deceased read.

The Kasoa District Police Command has conveyed the body to the St. Gregory Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

Some residents who spoke with Onua News’ Nana Yaw Asare noted the deceased once attempted suicide by taking in poison but was not successful because the neighbours detected it early and rushed him to the hospital, until Wednesday’s incident which went unnoticed.
