Prominent businessman and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has officially declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer race for election 2028.
This will be his second term vying for the flagbearership after losing to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, then Vice President in the 2023 Presidential Primaries.
Kennedy Agyapong’s announcement comes on the heels of the party’s official opening of nominations on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, for its primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
In a communique signed by the Former Presidential candidate, Kennedy Agyapong stated that; “Now, that nominations have been opened, I will be contesting for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2028 Presidential Primaries.” Part of the letter reads.
The businessman also vowed to lead with integrity devoid of partisanship.
“I am ready to listen to you and to lead with integrity and purpose. Let us move forward together.” He said.
Kennedy Agyapong’s candidacy is set to be the first official declaration aside from potential names, such as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President and the NPP’s flagbearer in the 2024 election, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (former Education Minister and MP for Bosomtwe), Bryan Acheampong (MP for Abetifi), and former party General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) through the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua announced opening of nominations for its 2028 flagbearer beginning today July 29 to August 28, 2025.
Potential aspirants are expected to pick nomination forms pegged at GH₵100,000 and the final filing fee set at GH₵500,000.
