Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has taken on the Vice President over his digitalisation drive.

He says Bawumia’s digitalisation as he has professed to Ghanaians is based on weak fundamentals which exposed him during the commissioning of the E-Gates at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during the inauguration of the E-Gates at the KIA Tuesday, December 03, 2024, was left in a state of embarrassment when the gates failed to open in the initial stages.

Videos of the Vice President which went viral on social media had Dr. Bawumia placing his Ghana card on the digital sensor of the gate which failed to open for over two minutes.

However, the gates finally opened to climax the commissioning, with many other persons at the scene also trying with their cards.

But, speaking to residents of Mpatom in the Manso Nkwanta constituency in the Ashanti region Wednesday, December 04, 2024, John Mahama said the gates failed to open because the Vice President’s supposed digitalisation drive is based on propaganda.

Borrowing Dr. Bawumia’s quote about the economy that the exchange rate of every economy determines how that economy is faring, John Mahama said the incident occurred to expose the NPP flag bearer’s propaganda on digitalising the economy.

“…the gate was not opening when he placed his Ghana card on it. So in English I’ll say ‘the digital gate didn’t open for the digital man’. I’ll use his own words to say that ‘you can use all the propaganda to do all the digitalisation you like. If the fundamentals of your digitalisation are weak, the digital gates will expose you,” he said in Twi.
