An articulated truck carrying a heavy load of B5 angle iron overturned and rested diagonally across the main Kintampo-Tamale highway, around 11:30 PM on Sunday, July 27, 2025, creating an impassable barrier for traffic in both directions.
The incident has left a significant number of drivers and passengers stranded, with frustration mounting among those caught in the gridlock.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the driver lost control of the trailer after its brakes reportedly failed as the vehicle approached the Kintampo Waterfalls area, a section of road known for its challenging terrain.
Despite the driver’s attempts to regain control, the immense weight of the B5 angle iron cargo made it impossible to prevent the truck from jackknifing across the road.
“It’s been hours, and there’s no sign of anyone coming to clear this,” one exasperated motorist told our reporter, reflecting the widespread sentiment among those stuck.
MCE for Kintampo North Municipal, Isaac Donkor, has acknowledged the severity of the situation and assured the public that immediate steps are being taken to address the obstruction.
“Emergency services are being mobilized to the site to help restore normalcy as quickly as possible,” Donkor stated.
However, the sheer presence of the heavy angle iron has presented a significant challenge to initial recovery efforts. As of late afternoon on Tuesday July 29, 2025, emergency services and specialized towing vehicles had yet to arrive at the scene to begin the complex operation of moving the trailer and its cargo.
Motorists planning to travel to Tamale route are strongly advised to seek alternative roads or postpone their journeys until the obstruction at Sronoase is cleared.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as soon as a recovery operation is actively underway. The incident is anticipated to cause significant delays well into the evening and potentially beyond.
