His Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini is in Ashanti Region for a special visit to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of plans to strengthen diplomatic and cultural ties between Eswatini and Asanteman.
As part of his activities, the King will visit the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, to gain insights into Ghana’s local governance system.
The visit will feature a comprehensive presentation by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on the District Assembly Concept — Ghana’s model of decentralized governance.
Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Boadi-Agyemang stated that the highlight of the King’s visit to KMA will be a special General Assembly session held in his honour.
The session aims to offer the King and his delegation a firsthand experience of how Ghana’s democratic processes function at the local level, particularly in Kumasi.
The KMA boss described the visit as a historic moment for Kumasi, showcasing the city’s role as a center of traditional leadership, governance innovation, and international cooperation.
“This is a proud moment for Kumasi and a testament to the growing relationship between Ghana, Asanteman, and the Kingdom of Eswatini,” he observed.
The visit underscores a broader interest by Eswatini in learning from Ghana’s decentralized governance system as it explores ways to enhance local participation and accountability in public administration.
