Private legal practitioner Kofi Bentil has projected that incumbency advantage will play out in the upcoming Kpandai parliamentary election rerun.
He says the people are now going to ask which of the candidates will be in a position to provide them with the needed development. This is likely to affect the way they vote.
Speaking on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, December 13, he said, “The power of incumbency will come into play in this election. I have no doubt that Nyindam won, but the court looked at every aspect to say, because of the way it was managed. The dynamics have changed now, you have an NDC government, and so the people are going to say, what can the government do, or the opposition party do? So it is good to shift the narrative.”
Prior to his comment, pollster Mussa Dankwah had said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in the Kpandai parliamentary elections, Matthew Nyindam, is very popular on the grounds ahead of the rerun of the polls.
Mussa Dankwah indicated that past figures from the constituency show the popularity of Nyindam in the area.
“I think he is popular, Mathhew Nyindam is strong on the grounds,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, December 13.
Mussa Dankwah further said that the rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election is going to be fiercely contested by the two leading political parties.
He says they expect the polls to be very close.
“We expect the race to be very fierce; early indication shows that we are not going to be surprised as to how close this will be. It is going to be very close,” he said.
“The numbers are very tight,” he added.
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a rerun of the Kpandai Constituency Parliamentary Election, scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
This decision followed a directive from the Tamale High Court, which on Monday, 24th November 2025, ordered a rerun of the election to be conducted within thirty (30) days.
The Commission’s action was further triggered by the receipt of a formal notification from the Clerk to Parliament on Tuesday, 9th December 2025, declaring the constituency’s parliamentary seat vacant.
In a press release, the EC stated that the rerun will be contested exclusively by the three candidates who participated in the original 2024 Parliamentary Election for the Kpandai Constituency.
