The number of students facing charges of vandalism at the Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School has risen to 43 after police made 4 more arrests.

39 rioting students vandalised several items including private properties in the school last month.

On January 22, 2023, 39 students of Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School at Asokore in Ashanti region were arrested for causing damage to school property.

The students were reported to have went on rampage over poor examination results of their seniors.

About four government vehicles and two others owned by teachers were destroyed.

The school’s store was also invaded by the students resulting in the destruction of food items.

The Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by His Worship Samuel Buaben Quansah, admitted the accused students to 2,000 cedis each bail with one surety.

Sureties and all 43 accused students are to report at the Effiduase police station once every week.

The case has since been adjourned to March 2, 2023.

The head of legal and prosecution, Ashanti regional police command, ACP Kofi Blagodzie, said they have taken fingerprints of the destroyed vehicles to aid investigations.

He added that they are pursuing other suspects connected to the disturbances.

”Other students or suspects were being sought in connection with the issue,” he said.

He assured of full scale investigation into the disturbances to bring to an end to students rioting.

Counsel for the accused, Lawyer Kwabena Gyamfi, was grateful to the court for granting them bail.

”We are extremely grateful to the court for granting the juveniles bail. We will make sure that whatever the court has ordered the juveniles will comply. In fact we have their parents here who are going to ensure that they obey every order to the latter,” he said.
