A fire outbreak at Abuakwa Manhyia, a suburb of Kumasi in the Atwima Nwabiagya South municipality of the Ashanti region has killed six people, including a three-month-old baby.
The six were confirmed dead after the fire swept through an apartment at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025. Authorities are yet to establish the cause of the incident.
Evans Opoku, the Assembly Member for Abuakwa Manhyia, told the media there was a temporary power outage in parts of the Ashanti region on Sunday evening, and the incident, was reported to him shortly after power was restored.
Fire officers from the Nkawie and Twedie Fire stations were dispatched to the scene to bring the blaze under control.
However, the victims had been trapped in the apartment as at the time the fire personnel arrived, resulting in their death.
Meanwhile, the charred bodies of the deceased have been recovered by the police and arrangements have been made to convey them to the morgue as investigations into the incident continue.
