The Member of Parliament for Akyim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has said the task ahead of the former Majority Leader was a herculean one, the reason he couldn’t combine it with his role in Parliament.

The MP says Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu had to resign from his position as Majority Leader in Parliament in order to undertake the lead role in the drafting of the party’s 2024 manifesto.

The Suame lawmaker, after a controversy over his position in the caucus and rumours of imminent changes that made waves on social media had to tender in his resignation in a meeting with President Akufo-Addo and the National Council of the New Patriotic Party.

Following his resignation, the NPP released its manifesto team with Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Chairman.

Despite many attributing the Suame MP’s resignation to the pressure that emanated from within the party, Mr. Akwasi Acquah holds that but for the task ahead in drafting the manifesto, there is no way the man with over 27 years experience in Parliamentary affairs would have resigned.

He was speaking with Yaa Titi on Onua FM’s afternoon political show, Pae Mu Ka, on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
