Former President John Dramani Mahama is urging African leaders to see leadership as a sacred trust and not an avenue to lord over their citizens.

For making decisions that affect the lives of the people they lead, the 2024 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has implored leaders to seek wisdom and divine guidance to propel these decisions they make on behalf of the people who entrusted their sovereignty in their care.

Speaking as the Chairman at the book launch of former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, in Nigeria Wednesday, March 06, 2024, John Mahama indicated that the perspectives in the 13-page leadership book will serve unborn generations so well.

Titled, The Art of Leading, John Mahama says he takes inspiration from the memoirs of the Nigerian leader as he readies himself to lead Ghana once more.

He disclosed that President Obasanjo’s knowledge and experienced leadership was part of the inspiration that propelled his journey during the period he served Ghana as President.

John Mahama went ahead to recommend the memoir to all who seek to lead with purpose and integrity to take inspiration from.

“I appreciate the perspectives Baba is communicating through this book, having been a leader himself, both in and outside political office. President Obasanjo’s extensive knowledge and experience in leadership have been a tremendous inspiration for many of us who belong to the next generation and it has helped me well in the period when God gave me the opportunity to lead my people and my nation. This book is an inspirational, thought-provoking read for all who seek to lead with integrity and purpose.

“Through the 13 chapters Baba expressly weaved for readers, an excellent leadership learning opportunity about biblical characters he referenced that we have never discovered. Reading this book brings a whole new perspective to what I can do as I prepare myself to offer myself again to my country to lead once again,” he noted.

John Mahama stated further that “leadership is a sacred trust and leaders must see divine guidance and wisdom as they make decisions that affect the lives of the people they lead. This book will inspire leaders from all walks of life to embrace the unconventional wisdom of the biblical leaders cited in the book and incorporate this into our leadership strategies.”
