The Chairman of the Western Regional Security Council and Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has counseled new recruits into National Security to abandon old habits and uphold the standards of their new roles.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) regional executive leadership also warned the recruits against using their positions for personal gain, cautioning them to avoid actions that could deceive or harm others.

National Security operatives are tasked with protecting citizens and national interests from threats, gathering and analyzing intelligence to anticipate security risks, preventing and responding to terrorism and cyber threats, and maintaining law and order by enforcing National Security laws.

Therefore, the Western Regional Security Liaison Officer, Brigadier General Musah Whajah (Rtd), and the Western Regional Security Council have organized a three-day orientation for 170 individuals, with 10 representatives from each constituency, to support security operations in combating crime across the region.

Mr Joseph Nelson counseled the recruits to abandon old habits and uphold the standards of their new positions.

“You have the privilege of being part of a system that demands a certain standard of conduct. Leave your old habits behind, as you’re entering a new environment with its own requirements. Your individual character will shine through, but if you’re unable to conform or take direction, then this may not be the right place for you,” he said.

The Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni Valley, Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, urged the recruits to prioritize discretion and confidentiality in their work, rather than seeking to show off.

“The knowledge you’ll gain here is for your eyes only, not for sharing with others. This is about national security, stability, and peace. What you learn stays here, and your discretion is crucial. Avoid boasting or revealing your role publicly; instead, maintain a low profile. This is an opportunity to serve your country, so make the most of it,” he warned.

Western Regional Chairman of the NDC, Nana Kojo Toku, and Regional Organizer Charles Fordjour warned the recruits against exploiting their positions for personal gain, cautioning them not to rush into actions that might deceive or harm others.

“Be mindful that what you seek may not be destined for you. Avoid taking shortcuts or exploiting your position, as this can bring shame to yourself and your leaders,” Nana Kojo Toku advised.

The Western Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Charles Fordjour cautioned that, “As you work with Ghanaians, remember that you’re being entrusted with a great opportunity. People will look up to you in your assigned areas, so maintain integrity. Any reports of exploiting your position or the system for personal gain will have severe consequences for you.”

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Musah Whajah (Rtd), Western Regional National Security Liaison Officer, commended the participants for their efforts in protecting the country from potential threats.

He encouraged them to uphold the principles and values of their new role.
