The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to request the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to inspect the Accra Sports Stadium and the University of Ghana Sports Stadium for approval for Category 3 matches.

The Minister is of the firm conviction that those two venues can host Black Stars games.

He argued that most of the issues identified by CAF inspectors regarding the Accra Sports Stadium have been solved while the University of Ghana Stadium is yet to be inspected for a Category 3 match, having already hosted CAF Category 2 matches.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports is confident that the University of Ghana and Accra Sports Stadium will meet the requirements for CAF’s Category 3 matches after the inspection, and again reiterate its commitment to upgrading the remaining national stadia to meet the standards required for CAF Category 3 matches,” a statement issued on Thursday, September 12 said.

This comes a day after the FA communicated a decision by CAF to withdraw approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

According to the GFA, CAF had requested it to look for alternative venues for the next 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers to be played at home.

It comes after the poor nature of the pitch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium became evident during the Ghana-Angola qualifier exactly a week ago.
