Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sherigain, has called on indigenes of the north to consider the contest between John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as a huge responsibility on them.
He has called on the people of the north to be of good conduct, urging the political parties to conduct issued-based campaign to maintain the reigning peace they have in the area.
He made the call during the historic visit of the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, to his royal palace at Nalerigu in the North East Region Sunday, July 28, 2024.
“This year is an election year and we must be proud of ourselves that two illustrious sons of Mamprugu and Yagbon are the two main contenders for Ghana’s Presidency.
“This is such a huge responsibility to all of us and I implored all to be of good conduct. The youth and the Political parties should conduct issue based campaigns in order to maintain the peace we are currently enjoying,” he advised.
The Nayiri also urged the election management body, the Electoral Commission (EC), to be fair and transparent in the conduct of the polls to ensure there is peace.
“I urge the Electoral Commission to be open and transparent in every aspect of the processes leading to the December 7th election and the subsequent declaration of the winner,” he called.
The Yagbonwura, Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale, on his part called on the entire citizenry to prove to the world that Ghana is capable of being independent by fostering peace before, during and after the polls.
“Election 2024 is about Ghana and we have to prove to the whole world that Ghana is capable and can manage its own affairs,” he noted.
TV3’s Northern Regional correspondent, Christopher Amoako, reported that the Nayiri’s palace was filled to capacity by residents of Nalerigu to witness the historic event.
