Lifeless body of 41-year-old canoe operator identified as Razak who drowned in White Volta at Daboya has been retrieved after two days of search.

On Monday October 27, Razak who was operating a canoe and crossing with passengers fell into the river leaving them to their fate.

The passengers managed to paddle themselves to safety.

Later, a search party was deployed by the Canoe Operators Association and the lifeless body of Razak was found on Tuesday October 28.

The family has since initiated plans for his burial.

It is recalled that on Saturday October 11, a wooden canoe capsized on the Volta Lake, killing 15 people, eleven being children. They were said to be mourners from Bovime, a small fishing village, who had travelled to Okuma for a funeral.
The visit on October 14 was to commiserate with the bereaved families. She said they are not alone in this time of grief and assured them of government’s support.
Earlier, the Vice President commiserated with the families in a post on Facebook on October 13.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic boat accident on the Volta Lake near Kete Krachi that has claimed the lives of 15 people, including 11 children,” she wrote.
“We stand with you in this moment of grief,” Prof Opoku-Agyemang added.
It is recalled that on October 12 the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) confirmed a fatal boat disaster on the Volta Lake near Kete Krachi resulting in a devastating loss of lives.

The incident is said to have occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at approximately 1:30 PM (13:30 hrs). A statement released by the GMA on Sunday, October 12, 2025 narrated that a small boat carrying passengers —reportedly returning from a funeral at Okuma to Bovime, both in the Krachi West District of the Oti Region, tragically capsized.
