Asutifi South Member of Parliament Collins Dauda, has been granted bail by the Ghana Police Service following his arrest on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has confirmed. He said the MP was released on self-reconnaissance bail immediately after his invitation and subsequent arrest by the Police.

The MP was arrested for allegedly being involved with some disturbances at a voter registration centre.

He has disclosed that the lawmaker has since returned to his constituency and has resumed monitoring of the ongoing limited voter registration.

Meanwhile, the NDC has described the arrest of the MP as unwarranted and baseless saying he was not present at the time the said disturbances took place.

The NDC Communications Director wants the police to redirect their focus and arrest the real perpetrators of the mayhem instead of the MP who knows nothing about the incident.

The NDC says efforts must be made to ensure justice by holding the right individuals accountable for the disturbances.

“So, we condemn what the police did and we are calling on them to focus on arresting the real perpetrators of that chaos, of those criminal actions. The NPP hoodlums and bandits were led by a known NPP bandit called Anointing,” Mr. Gyamfi to JoyNews.

“He is a notorious guy in the area, everybody knows him, the police know him, they know where he lives. They should focus on arresting and prosecuting those hoodlums who went to the voting centre to harass, intimidate, and brutalise innocent citizens,”Mr Gyamfi added.

Collins Dauda was reportedly detained by the police in connection with a disturbance that occurred during the limited voter registration exercise at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region.

The incident resulted in one individual sustaining injuries and being hospitalized.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police suggested Mr Dauda’s involvement in the unrest.
