The Government of Ghana has included 60 private schools in the Free Senior High School policy, a significant development since the policy was first introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration.

This is the first time private SHSs have been incorporated into the Free SHS programme, a move aimed at increasing access to quality second-cycle education, particularly in areas where public SHSs are over-subscribed.

This inclusion is expected to help reduce congestion in public SHSs and ensure that more students can benefit from quality education.

The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has extends its appreciation to government for this move which sees it as a step toward broadening access to quality education.

GNACOPS says it will work with government to ensure that the concerns of private schools are captured in the policy.

“We wish to assure all stakeholders that the government, GNACOPS, and relevant agencies are working behind the scenes to expand this collaboration. The ultimate goal is to include all qualified and quality-assured private senior high schools in future cohorts,” the Council said in a statement.

“We encourage continued patience, preparation, and compliance with regulatory standards to strengthen your eligibility for subsequent admissions under the Free SHS policy,” GNACOPS stated.

Parents and guardians are advised to verify the list of approved private SHSs through the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES), or GNACOPS platforms.
