The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga has inaugurated the Steering Committee for the Accra Green and Clean City Initiative at the Ministry’s Conference Room.
The Committee inaugurated on October 15 is chaired by His Royal Majesty, King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, and has membership from key technical agencies, the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

The initiative seeks to transform Accra into a cleaner, greener, healthier and more attractive city through sustainable partnerships with Corporate Ghana.

At the heart of the initiative is the Adopt-a-Street / Adopt-a-Corridor Programme, where corporate organisations will partner with the Ministry and Assemblies to adopt and maintain designated streets, medians, roundabouts and public spaces through regular cleaning, landscaping and tree planting as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.

Ayariga charged the Committee to develop an implementation framework, identify priority corridors, mobilize corporate partners, and establish monitoring mechanisms to ensure visible transformation of the city.
