President John Dramani Mahama has said his administration is putting measures in place to avert the looming power outages bequeathed by the Akufo-Addo administration.

Ghana is currently faced with a potential power rationing also known ‘dumsor’, due to the unavailability of fuel to power the power plants.

John Mahama, speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana on Thursday, January 09, 2025, John Mahama acknowledged the critical challenges facing the country, particularly in the energy sector.

He assured Ghanaians of his government’s commitment to solving the challenge, stating that was the reason Ghanaians voted for them.

Mahama noted that they will spell out the realities of the state of the economy to Ghanaians and address them accordingly.

“We are assuming office at a critical time in our nation’s history. Ghana is faced with significant challenges. But that is exactly the reason why you elected us.

“We will transparently let you understand what those challenges are and we will take responsibility for solving them,” he stated.

He asked Ghanaians to be hopeful of his administration finding a lasting solution to the challenge ahead.

“There is a threat of power outages but my brothers and sisters, don’t despair. You elected us to solve the problems not to put the blame on anybody else,” President Mahama said.

He revealed that on Wednesday, January 8, he convened a stakeholders’ meeting to brainstorm and implement innovative strategies to stabilise the energy supply.

“I can assure you of some of the ideas they have come up with. We will make sure that your lights stay on and that we do not have dumsor,” he stated.

President Mahama stated that the challenges in the energy sector require urgent and collaborative efforts, and his administration is prepared to lead the way in overcoming them.
