The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has commissioned 42 drilled boreholes in 32 communities within the Bawku municipality of the Upper East Region.

Residents in the outskirt communities in the Bawku Central Constituency have no access to boreholes and have been drinking water from wells sometimes contaminated by refuse, dust, and other materials due to the open nature of the wells.

The boreholes are to solve the perennial water shortages experienced in the beneficiary communities during the dry season, as well as help residents to access good drinking water to improve their health.

The project, an initiative of the MP, was fully funded by himself, friends, and supported by his common fund.

In a brief ceremony to commission the 42 boreholes projects, Mahama Ayariga said the boreholes will go a long way to relieve residents, most especially women and children, who trek several miles in search of good drinking water.

According to Mahama Ayariga, the water projects were built within five months after so many projects were executed in the constituency, including electricity, roads, schools, and others.

Assembly member for Zabugu Electoral Area Akuka Mohammed Zakari thanked the MP for coming to the aid of the people in his electoral area.

He said his electorates used to travel long distances in search of water, but with the help of the MP, their animals, fowls, will not get lost.

Another beneficiary, Rakiayatu Abugri, said at first they used to cross roads and long distances in search of water, but with the construction of the boreholes, they are now safe from being knockdown by moving vehicles.

She expressed gratitude to Hon. Mahama Ayariga for giving them clean water.
