President John Dramani Mahama has asked the Minister of Finance to make provision for GH¢300 million in the 2027 Budget to construct 250 new apartments for police officers.
The proposed housing project is intended to ease congestion in police barracks and improve accommodation for personnel.
Speaking at the commissioning of the ultramodern 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital on Tuesday, October 13, President Mahama announced the plan as part of measures to strengthen the capacity of the security services to protect the country while reducing the risks faced by officers in the line of duty.
“There is still more good news. I have requested the Minister of Finance to provide GH¢300 million in the 2027 Budget to construct 250 new apartments for the Police to ease congestion in some of your barracks,” he said.
The President said the proposed investment in police accommodation would complement other interventions aimed at improving the welfare and operational capacity of the service.
He added that the planned construction of the apartments, alongside the expansion of the Police Hospital, formed part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen national security.
“These measures, together with the expansion of the police hospital, are part of our efforts to strengthen the Services’ capacity to keep our country safe while reducing the risk faced by its personnel,” he said.
The President also announced plans to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Police Service through additional armoured vehicles and protective equipment.
He said a second batch of 40 armoured vehicles was expected to be delivered in the coming weeks, following the handover of 50 vehicles to the service in December 2025.
President Mahama added that the government was procuring additional body armour to improve the protection of officers deployed on operational duties.
