President-elect John Dramani Mahama has expressed his resolve to upscale the benefits of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) between Ghana and other countries in the region.

The former President says he will use his experience as “a former Chair of the AU high-level committee on Trade” to ensure the feat is attained.

After a visit to the President of Kenya, William Ruto, Mahama stated on his social media that AfCFTA presents an opportunity for African nations to leverage on a stronger economic relations amongst them.

John Mahama had visited Ruto over the weekend to invite him for his inauguration on Tuesday, January 07, 2024, and also to appreciate his support to him over the years.

He stated that the meeting presented them with an opportunity to discuss other things including security on the continent and capitalising on the economic advantage of the respective nations through the AfCFTA.

“It was a great opportunity to discuss our regional integration efforts, continental security and how we can work collectively to upscale the benefits of the AfCFTA. As a former Chair of the AU high-level committee on Trade, I remain committed to expanding trade among our countries under the aegis of the AfCFTA,” he stated.

“We shall strengthen relations between Kenya and Ghana,” he added.
